Saving Lives, One Cat at a Time with TNVR
Have you heard of TNVR?
TNVR stands for Trap, Neuter, Vaccinate, Return.
Many people in Tampa and Hillsborough County are aware of the large homeless cat population. This problem was created by people, but there are resources available to help with spay and neuter services. The Hillsborough County Pet Resource Center, the Humane Society of Tampa Bay, and St. Francis Animal Rescue all offer low-cost or no-cost spay/neuter procedures and vaccinations for homeless cats.
In addition to reducing the number of homeless cats by preventing litters, there are other benefits: fewer behavioral problems such as spraying and fighting, and prevention of reproductive cancers.
I know of many individuals and rescues actively trapping cats for spay/neuter and helping the situation. This effort is supported by HCPRC, HSTB, and local rescues. However, when people give away kittens without involving a rescue, those kittens often are not spayed or neutered. Many new owners never take them to the vet for this procedure, and some allow their cats outdoors. This creates a serious problem when the cats are not fixed. The best way to address this is through education about TNVR, sharing available resources, and encouraging people to get involved.
Homeless cats and kittens are not wild animalsβthey are domestic cats simply trying to survive. Life on the streets is difficult and heartbreaking for them. Please help these fur babies who cannot help themselves.

I have personally taken cats for TNVR and hope more neighbors will do the same. Please and thank you.
